What does „B-T-O“ mean for some dedicated server series?

20.05.2019 | von Susanne

Some dedicated server series are displayed as so-called „BTO“ servers on the website, regarding availability.

What does „BTO“ actually mean for us or for our customers?

The abbreviation „BTO“ stands for „Build-To-Order“ and in our case means that the provisioning process of a dedicated server is slightly different compared to on stock „RTR“ servers. In brief, we only order the hardware from the supplier after you have ordered from us. In addition to a disadvantage, namely a slightly longer deployment time, the advantages such as e.g. Reduced inventory costs, more up-to-date hardware and lower prices for you as a customer.

And this is how the B-T-O process works for us in detail:

1. The customer orders his BTO server. Whether the server is a BTO server is usually recognized by the status of availability.

2. The (new) customer pays the server and thus authorizes his order. (Existing customers with SEPA direct debits or credits may be allowed to skip this step.)

3. EUserv checks the inventory and retrieves required server components from the supplier if necessary.

4. After the ordered hardware has been delivered and all components are complete, the actual deployment process starts.

5. All hardware components are assembled in our in-house workshop.

6. The fully assembled server is fully tested after its installation.

7. Once all tests have been completed successfully, the server will be installed, linked up and put into operation in the EUserv data center.

8. Subsequently, the accessibility and connections are tested and test installations are performed.

9. The correctly running server is now provided to the customer. With the provision full administration rights are assigned to the customer (root access), so that from this point, the user is responsible for everything happens on the server.

Conclusion:

Because keeping or storing large quantities of such high-quality server components does currently not make economic sense, the „BTO“ principle offers a great solution for customers. Even though the „BTO“ devices are not immediately available as opposed to „RTR“ devices, all customers are assured that only selected and up-to-date hardware is installed and also benefit from a favorable price-performance ratio.

The first „BTO“ server series is the „Instant64 v5“ series equipped with Intel® Core i7-8700 „Coffee Lake“ processors:

2.) Server News # 1: New operating systems – Debian 7.2 and Ubuntu 13.10

** Debian 7.2 **

The Debian project has released the second update of the stable-releases „Wheezy“. In this context we offer a minimal installation image in „Standard“ and „RAID1“ in the EUserv customer panel. Debian 7.2 mainly comes with security fixes and critical bug fixes. As usual, the available packages do not include any updates, only relevant bugs and security holes have been closed.

These bug fixes affect a total of 100 packages (including curl, nmap, openvpn, php5 and perl). In addition to Ubuntu 12.04 a LTS kernel (3.2.51) is used, which is not officially supported in any way until 2016.

** Ubuntu 13.10 **

Before the release of the next LTS next April, the developer of Ubuntu have released version 13.10 („Saucy Salamander“). 13.10 of the popular Linux distribution is available as an installation for all dedicated servers in the customer panel. In addition to the standard installation a RAID1 version can be selected.

„Saucy Salamander“ was simultaneously presented with OpenStack’s new version of „Havana“. 13.10 Ubuntu Server is running on a kernel 3.11 and comes with some updates. These include Qemu in version 1.5.0 and the virtualization library „libvirt“ in version 1.1.1. Apache 2.4 with PHP 5.5 scripting language comes as standard as a web server. For the first time the openVZ-like virtualisation solution LXC („Linux Containers“) is included.

Regarding the support, „Saucy Salamander“ takes over the policy of its predecessor: The non-LTS versions are now supplied with updates in 9 instead of the previous 18 months. „Saucy Salamander“ will appear in the „end-of-life“ status three months after the next LTS release.

More features:
– Qemu 1.5.0, libvirt 1.1.1
– Apache 2.4, PHP 5.5
– Managing Linux Containers (LXC) with Juju
– OpenStack in version 2013.2
– Python 3.3

Proxmox 3.1 for dedicated servers available

07.10.2013 | von Robby

From now on, the virtualization platform Proxmox VE 3.1 can be installed via the EUserv customer panel. A standard version as well as a RAID1 version are available. With Proxmox 3.1 there are signifcant changes to the included repositories. Via the default repository „pve-enterprise“ licensees get stable updates, security patches and bug fixes. Users without a license agreement can use the „pve-no-subscription“ repository, which replaces the previous „pve (-stable)“.In version 3.1, a Debian „Wheezy“ with Redhat 7.1 kernel (2.6.32-23pve) can be used.

Proxmox VE 3.1 now supports the SPICE protocol (Simple Protocol for Independent Computing Environments) as a preview. SPICE enables the delivery of virtual desktops and provides the user with a user experience similar to a local machine while it tries to calculate CPU-and GPU-intensive tasks from the client. SPICE is the integration of the Cluster environment, while the user and system authentication and all traffic will be encrypted. The graphical output is using VNC but is still available as standard. As a new file system plugin, the developers of GlusterFS also have added their cluster-enabled file system. In addition, users can now update their web interface via the Proxmox host.

More features:

– updates can now be performed on the new update feature in the web interface
– support for GlusterFS via a new storage plugin
– permanent price reduction of Community Subscription
– integration of the package update manager in the Web Interface

Plesk 11.5 for dedicated servers available

04.10.2013 | von Robby

Due to the End-of-Life status of Plesk 9.x and the release of Plesk 11.5
we are now providing installation images for Debian 7.1, openSUSE 12.3 and CentOS 6.4.
All of these images include a default installation of Plesk 11.5 and can be installed „out of the box“ from the customer center. Additionally there is a software raid1 version available for each system.

Coming with critical security fixes against malware exploits in the first place, Plesk 11.5 is providing the following features:

– Support has been officially announced for Debian 7

– Additional administrator accounts can be created; until now this feature was exclusive to Windows versions of Plesk only

– Multiple versions of PHP can be installed and used on a single server. This affects resellers mainly: Different PHP versions can be assigned to and selected by specific customer roles

– Specific Apache configuration values (regarding MIME types, handlers, access restrictions and index files) can be set for certain websites by the customer. A similar function is available when using the Nginx web server.

– Static files and PHP can directly be delivered and processed via Nginx without redirecting them to Apache

– FTP webspace can be accessed via an SSL-secured connection
